JET STRIKE

On his forty-ninth mission, 1st Lieutenant Joe Peterburs of the 55th Fighter Squadron 20 Fighter Group was flying cover for a formation of B17’s he saw an Me262 diving through the formation, peeling off and getting onto its tail the machine guns blazing hits to the wing and engine the Me262 disintegrating. The pilot bailed out, who was Oberleutnant Walter Schuck and was credited with 206 victories. Later that day Peterburs P51 was damaged by ground fire and he was forced to bail out and became a prisoner of war.
