On the2nd January 1944 Ted was assigned to fly with a group of Lancaster's of 49 Squadron , approximately 60 miles north west of Berlin Ted’s skipper upon reaching his turning point dipped his wing and without any warning there was a terrifying crash, they had collided with another Lancaster. Grabbing his parachute and climbing over the main spar,
eventually reaching the back door, he clipped on this chute and jumped. All of Ted’s crew survived the collision but sadly everybody perished in the other Lancaster.
