Night after night the ‘Old lags’ of Sir Arthur Harris’s Bomber Command would
return to their Airfield on the east coast of England. The crew is exhausted from their intense
operation deep over enemy territory. They take five minutes to reflect in the early morning
sunrise, strike up a well earned cigarette and exchange stories before heading off for a debrief.
