Col. Gail Halverson, a C-54 Pilot participating in the Berlin Airlift, noticed that children would line the airfields, waiting for the airplanes to land, he attached parcels containing candy to small parachutes which he head released as his plane circled the Airfields, Col. Gail Halverson gained notiatiry and became known as the “Candy Bomber”. Many other air crews subsequently followed suit.
